Up to the Independence of Costa Rica on the 15 of September of 1821, it's history is very linked to the rest of the countries of the Central America Federation, that includes Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Even then Central America continued for a while as a unique country.
